Title: Sincerely Yours
Artist: Jo Stafford
Catalogue No: SEPIA 1068
Barcode: 5055122110682
Release Date: 2 May 2006

The lovely voice of Jo Stafford reigned over airwaves for most of the 1940s and 1950s with favourites like You Belong To Me, Whispering Hope, Shrimp Boats, Make Love To Me, Jambalaya, all million-sellers. So popular was she that Columbia Records gave her a Diamond Award as the first recording artist to sell 25,000,000 records.

Her hits have appeared on many compilation "Best Of" CDs, but a huge number of her lesser known recordings are still unavailable and the main purpose of this CD release is to fill a few of those gaps, and in doing so, to illustrate just what a wide range of musical styles she covered. Many of the 30 tracks here are making their first re-appearance since their initial release - and one or two have not been previously available in the UK in any form whatsoever.

Jo's famous sense of humour comes over extremely well in the madcap follow-up to the million-selling Tim-Tay-Shun when she again duets, in the disguise of Cinderella G. Stump, with Red Ingle on Prisoner Of Love's Song, and she adopts a similar twang on The Travelling Salesman Polka, her one and only duet with country singer Tex Williams.

Her most regular singing partner was Gordon MacRae and the two tracks they share here (Juanita, Sweet And Low) have been neglected for far too long, as have the three sacred songs, It Is Springtime, Each Step Of The Way and The Lord Is My Shepherd. Blue Moon has cropped up on many Jo Stafford CDs but these have either been the lengthy V-Disc version or that recorded for Reader's Digest so its good to hear her 1952 effort here on CD for the first time along with Dancing On The Ceiling and Blue Skies.

We have also included the rare House Party "live" recording supposedly made at the home of Jo and Paul Weston where we get to hear Jo in an informal setting entertaining guests Frankie Laine, Liberace and Dave Brubeck.

This release, including as it does, comedy, country, religious material, show tunes, pop songs, standards, novelty and much more, is proof that Jo Stafford definitely deserves the description "America's most versatile singing star".
