Title:
Queen
Of
The
Hollywood
Islands
Artist:
Dorothy
Lamour
Catalogue
No:

Barcode:

Release
Date:

May
2004
Dorothy
Lamour's
first
major
film
role
had
her
clad
in
a
sarong
in
"The
Jungle
Princess",
a
film
that
propelled
her
to
instant
stardom
and
she
became
Hollywood's
queen
of
South
Sea
island
films.
Fortunately
she
could
also
act,
the
public
liked
her
and
she
sustained
her
long
Hollywood
career
in
over
60
films,
co-starring
with
Bing
Crosby
and
Bob
Hope
in
six
very
successful
"Road
To…"
films.
However,
a
little
known
fact
is
that
Dorothy
Lamour
had
been
a
band
singer
before
venturing
into
films,
and
her
singing
ability
has
often
been
overlooked.
Her
film
career
took
precedence
and
she
recorded
sporadically
but
during
the
1940s
she
recorded
8
sides
for
the
independent
Coast
label.
We
have
found
and
are
proud
to
feature
these
rare
sides
plus
some
other
previously
unavailable
on
CD
Hawaii-themed
tracks.
The
title
track,
"Queen
of
the
Hollywood
Islands",
where
the
star
turns
the
laugh
on
herself
was
specially
composed
for
her
by
Frank
Loesser
for
her
show-stopping
sequence
in
the
film
"A
Miracle
Can
Happen".
