Not
only
was
Johnny
Mercer
a
prolific
songwriter
-
he
was
lyricist
for
more
popular
songs
than
any

in

he

was
a
stylish
singer
whose
genial
vocal
style
proved
popular
in
it's
own
right
with
4
chart-toppers
in
America.
The
Pied
Pipers

Jo
Stafford
(1942-1944),
then
June
Hutton,
who

Dorsey

modern
harmonic
blending
of
four
voices
gave
them
12
Top
Thirty
hits
throughout
the
1940s.
During
1943
and
1944
the
Pied
Pipers
were

June
Hutton

appearing
regularly
on
Frank
Sinatra's
TV
show
(her
husband
Axel
Stordahl
was
Sinatra's
Musical
Director)
while
continuing
a
recording
career
with
various
labels.
