Speak
To
Me
Of
Love
was
an
LP
recorded
in
1956
plus
tracks
from
one
of
Tonys
films,
show
tunes
and
pop
songs,
none
of
which
to
our
knowledge
have
been
available
digitally
make
up
the
24
tracks
here.
Tony
Martin
was
born
in
California
in
1912.
Playing
in
a
school
band
it
wasnt
long
before
he
formed
his
own
outfit,
The
Clarion
Four
where
they
played
the
Palace
Hotel
in
San
Francisco.
Travelling
to
the
Worlds
Fair
in
Chicago
in
1934
Tony
found
work
in
the
Windy
City
for
a
year
and
returned
to
Hollywood
hoping
to
break
into
movies.
A
part
in
Follow
The
Fleet
led
to
a
contract
with
20th
Century
Fox
and
soon
Tony
was
not
only
making
movies
but
signed
to
Decca
Records
as
a
vocalist.
When
America
joined
the
war
Tony
enlisted
where
he
was
decorated
with
a
bronze
star.
He
resumed
after
the
war
with
more
films
and
a
contract
with
Mercury
and
then
RCA
Victor.
It
was
at
this
time
he
married
Cyd
Charisse.
Together
with
Cyd,
Tony
formed
a
night
club
act
in
the
Sixties
and
as
late
as
the
Nineties
they
were
performing
together
at
Londons
Café
Royal.
As
you
would
expect
from
an
album
entitled
Speak
To
Me
Of
Love
these
are
ballads
full
of
romance
and
standards
that
have
stood
the
test
of
time.
Some
are
romantic
(the
title
track),
some
are
bitter
sweet
(When
The
World
Was
Young).
Following
on
from
the
album
tracks
come
a
selection
of
recordings
that
havent
been
available
for
over
half
a
century.
Are
You
Just
A
Beautiful
Dream
and
The
Closer
You
Are
are
from
Tonys
film
Two
Tickets
To
Broadway.
Where
Did
the
Night
Go
is
a
delightful
ballad
from
the
hit
show
Wish
You
Were
Here
whilst
Padam
Padam
was
a
number
with
the
typical
French
feel
that
was
popular
at
the
time.
