Volume 6 of the Bing Crosby "Through the Years" series features recordings by Crosby in chronological order made between November 1953 and April 1954. In the U.S.A. movie box office stars poll for 1953 Crosby had come in at number five and he had four records that became chart hits. In the closing weeks of 1953, Crosby filmed "The Bing Crosby Show", his first special for television which won him favourable reviews.
The following year saw Decca, the record label Crosby was signed to, celebrating their twentieth anniversary by issuing a boxed set containing five long-playing records entitled "Bing Crosby – A Musical Autobiography" as a tribute to their most successful star. The record set contained 49 re-recordings of his early successes and this CD picks up part of the first re-recording session for the album in April 1954. The same month also saw Crosby getting together with his co-vocalists to recreate the finale to his forthcoming film "White Christmas". Peggy Lee replaced Rosemary Clooney who was contracted to another label. Three tracks from the film are featured here.
